Jon King: TO HELL WITH POVERTY! in conversation with Miki Berenyi
Thursday 16th April | 7pm
The Rock 'n' Roll Book Club is excited to host Jon King at The Red Lion in Leytonstone for an unforgettable evening of music, stories, and conversation.
Join us as Jon King delves into his incredible journey, chronicled in his book TO HELL WITH POVERTY!. From his humble beginnings in a South London slum to international fame as a core member of the legendary post-punk/funk band Gang of Four, Jon’s story is a kaleidoscopic adventure through the golden era of post-punk.
Expect tales of life at the heart of the Leeds music scene in the 1970s, with anecdotes of sharing stages with The Police, Talking Heads, and being supported by REM, this is a rare insight into the life of a true music icon.
Jon will be joined in conversation by Miki Berenyi, author, musician, and former member of Lush. Miki’s memoir, Fingers Crossed, was Rough Trade’s Book of the Year in 2022, making her the perfect host for this evening of storytelling and reflection.
The night will also feature a strident post-punk soundtrack from the aptly named It’s Her Factory DJs.
